National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

Chattanooga, Tenn. – Hamilton County Schools (HCS) is thrilled to announce that seven exceptional students have been recognized as National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists. 


Seven students from four schools have been named as semifinalists for National Merit Scholarships. These students earned this recognition due to their performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT).  


“We are extremely proud of these National Merit Semi-finalists and their achievements,” stated Blake Freeman, HCS Chief Academic Officer. “Hamilton County Schools provides rigorous content and high-quality instruction for all students. These students' successes affirm that HCS students can compete with students nationwide as well as are receiving instruction from the top tier educators." 

This prestigious honor is a testament to the hard work and dedication of these students, as well as the commitment of our educators to providing a high-quality education.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition that recognizes and honors outstanding high school students in the United States. The program awards scholarships to students who demonstrate exceptional academic ability, achievement, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. Becoming a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist is highly competitive, as it represents the top 1% of high school students in the nation.

The recognition of these seven students as National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists is a shining example of the success that is possible when we work to create opportunity by design for all students. Student is possible when hard work and dedication combined with the support and guidance of families and educators.

Principal Michael Carson, Signal Mountain Middle High, is proud of the hard work, time, and effort that these students have dedicated to their education. He said, "We are proud of the investment that our staff, parents, and community have made in our school in support of our students in achieving this level of excellence."
