HCS Guidelines for Our Students and Their Families

The Covid-19 Pandemic has created numerous hurdles for our school system; however, we remained committed to ensuring our students experience learning at high levels and that the achievements of our students are recognized. We have been following guidance from the CDC and local health department.

Below are the guidelines that will be followed for Hamilton County Schools graduation ceremonies. Site specific instructions will be more detailed at each location; however, the guidelines below are the minimum standard for each location.

Please be aware that these ceremonies are subject to change and/or cancellation if there is a spike in COVID cases in Hamilton County or at individual schools.

Guidelines for Graduation Sites

Guests attending

  • Guests will be limited to up to 10 per student. Families can sit together but will have to maintain 6 feet apart from other families to meet “Social Distancing” guidelines.
  • Attendants will be required to wear masks during arrival, dismissal, and anytime they have to leave their seats.
  • At school locations all entrances should be utilized for arrival to ensure social distancing is taking place.
  • At dismissal, attendants will be encouraged to exit by rows to provide for social distancing.
  • Attendants are encouraged to bring their own hand sanitizer.
  • No concession stands will be open. Attendants will need to bring their own water. All water must be in a clear, unopened bottle.
  • Restrooms will be available on an emergency basis and numbers in restrooms will be limited.

  • Students will gather in a location designated by school administration. Students and faculty/staff will be required to wear masks and practice social distancing while waiting for the ceremony to begin.
  • During the ceremony, students will be seated with chairs a minimum of 6 feet apart and masks can be removed once seated. Masks should be worn during exit.
  • More school-specific guidelines will be provided to all students (dress code, etc.)

End of Ceremony Procedures

  • All Students and Attendants will need to exit the venue immediately following the ceremony.
  • Gathering on campus and in parking lots, at any time, is strongly discouraged for both students and/or attendants.
