HCS 2020-2021 TNReady Results- A Story of Progress and ResilienceChattanooga, Tenn. (Aug. 11, 2021) -- Hamilton County Schools (HCS) TNReady Results for 2020-2021 demonstrated continued educational progress through unprecedented times.

HCS outperformed the state in 24 of the 28 tested areas, with 5 areas exceeding state results by 5% or more. The district continues to improve learning opportunities through programs such as Summer REACH, which implemented a learning loss mitigation solution throughout Summer Break, and a new literacy curriculum, which improved 3rd grade ELA proficiency over 2019 data.

“These results are a testament to the dedication of our teachers and administrators and their tireless efforts to ensure our students are succeeding,” said Dr. Johnson, Hamilton County Schools Superintendent. “I am proud of the work we have accomplished and the opportunities we have created for our students.”

The chart below demonstrates HCS progress in student achievement since 2016, and the district’s success in outperforming the state averages in 24 of 28 testing areas in 2020-21.

Hamilton County Schools’ youngest learners exceeded statewide performance in every subject and grade level. In 2016-17, HCS only exceeded the state average in 13% of tested areas. In 2020-21, that percentage increased to 86% of tested areas exceeding state averages.

The district also achieved increases in proficiency for U.S. History and 3rd Grade ELA, which is a significant accomplishment since the state averages did not see the same level of increases in these subject areas. The chart below shows the changes in difference from the state averages for grades 3-8 since 2016.
