Today’s #HCSHeroes Spotlight is Dyea Tumlin, library media specialist at Tyner Middle Academy. In addition to running the library, Mrs. Tumlin also provides support for Chromebooks, which has made her invaluable during the transition to remote learning this year.

“Mrs. Tumlin goes above and beyond the call of duty to help everyone here at TMA,” said Ahmee Kelly, one of Mrs. Tumlin’s colleagues. “She is wonderful with the students and she has been a blessing to us all. She has managed to keep up with Chromebooks, make the library a safe and inviting space, works well with our families, and does it all with a smile.”

Mrs. Tumlin, who has dubbed herself the school’s “Book Pusher and Information Maven,” joined Hamilton County Schools seven years ago as a clerical assistant, and now proudly serves as a librarian. Always looking for new ways to support students, the COVID-19 pandemic presented Mrs. Tumlin with an unexpected opportunity to expand resources.

“During Quarantine, I focused on moving information and resources into a virtual platform,” said Mrs. Tumlin. “We are investing in e-books and working alongside the Chattanooga Public Library to provide resources to our students, staff and parents.”

Mrs. Tumlin adds, “As a librarian, my job is to assist everyone in researching and implementing these new ideas and think outside of the box.”

The efforts of our teachers and staff are truly heroic, and we are proud to have people like Mrs. Tumlin on our team to support our students!
